A Limited-Edition Watch for the Navy EOD Community to Benefit the Navy Special Operations Foundation

Developed in partnership with Bulova and rooted in the original U.S. Navy MIL-SHIPS program, the MIL-SHIPS Navy EOD is a community-driven project honoring the history, service, and shared culture of Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal.

This is not a commercial launch. It is a collective effort to preserve a legacy and carry it forward with intention.

Born From Operational Need

THE LEGACY

In 1955, the U.S. Navy issued the MIL-SHIPS-W-2181 specification, calling for the first U.S.-made military dive watch capable of supporting combat divers and the emerging Explosive Ordnance Disposal community. The requirement marked the Navy’s first formal effort to define a purpose-built underwater timepiece to its own operational standard.

Though never formally issued, Bulova’s MIL-SHIPS-W-2181 was evaluated by the Navy Experimental Diving Unit between 1957 and 1958 across three prototypes. Throughout testing, the Navy maintained sustained interest in the program, even as alternative manufacturers were evaluated and ultimately set aside.

Several prototypes made their way into the hands of EOD and UDT operators. Though never fielded, its purpose, design, and intent endured, establishing the template for purpose-built dive instruments that followed.

A living lineage

THE COMMUNITY

From the first bomb and mine disposal operations of World War II to today’s global operations, Navy EOD has evolved into a modern force built on technical mastery and quiet professionalism. Our small, tightly connected community is defined by trust, precision, and shared risk.

This project exists to honor that lineage, especially the 84 community members who have been lost in the line of duty and to recognize the quiet professionalism and teamwork that continue to define our culture.

Built with intention

THE WATCH

The MIL-SHIPS Navy EOD watch is designed as a modern expression of a historic tool. Every decision reflects function, durability, and respect for the original program, while meeting the needs of today’s operators.

Produced by Bulova, the watch features purpose-driven materials, historically grounded design cues, and EOD-specific details that make it totally unique from a commercial release.

Reserve your place

This project is guided by the community it represents. The final watch, inspired by the original MIL-SHIPS prototype, is now available for reservation.

Members of the Navy EOD community are invited to register for a watch and receive updates as the project progresses. Availability will be limited.

Prototype models of the watch will be available for viewing at the Navy Special Operations Foundation Gala on June 6, 2026 in Virginia Beach, where Bulova will also share additional historical context behind the project.

The MIL-SHIPS Navy EOD is a limited-edition watch developed exclusively for the Navy EOD community. This specific configuration, defined by its design, components, and purpose will remain unique to this project.

Bulova also plans to introduce a separate commercial watch inspired by the MIL-SHIPS Navy EOD project. While it will share a titanium case, it will differ in overall design, appearance, and components.

Together, these projects are designed to create sustained support for the Navy Special Operations Foundation.

The goal is not mass production, but preservation, participation, and respect for the legacy behind the name.

Clear intent,
shared purpose
